Amityville Condo Renovation: First Floor Fabulous
Project Overview
Our repeat client made the decision to downsize and relocate closer to her children on Long Island after selling her previous home. Having purchased land in Vermont where she will eventually build a retreat home, she needed an immediate solution: transforming a first-floor, two-bedroom condo in Amityville, NY into a comfortable and functional living space that would serve as her primary residence during this transition period.
The Design Challenge
This complete renovation required us to reimagine every aspect of the living space. The condo presented a blank canvas that needed to be transformed into a cohesive home that could accommodate both daily living and entertaining. Our primary challenge was creating a functional kitchen where our client could cook and entertain guests, while ensuring the entire space felt welcoming and reflected her personal style using furniture from her previous home.
Design Solutions & Aesthetic Approach
Kitchen Transformation: We completely redesigned the kitchen to maximize both function and visual impact. The centerpiece became a gorgeous quartzite slab from ABC Stone and installation by Luxe Stone, which provided both durability and sophisticated elegance. Two pendant lights from Elements over the island created focused task lighting while adding architectural interest to the space. This combination succeeded in transforming what was once a non-functional area into the heart of the home.
Living & Dining Integration: The living and dining room received fresh paint and new moldings to create architectural definition and visual cohesion. We strategically incorporated our client's existing furniture from her previous house, creating familiarity and comfort in her new space. To enhance the overall design, we ordered additional furniture pieces with coordinating fabrics that tied seamlessly with her new rug from Nourison and existing sofas, creating a unified and intentional look throughout the main living areas.
Bedroom Refresh: Both the primary bedroom and guest room were refreshed with carefully selected paint colors and thoughtfully chosen accessories. We're particularly proud of the beautiful rug from Jaipur that we selected for one of the bedrooms – it perfectly captures the balance of comfort and style that defines this entire project.
Client Connection
Working with repeat clients allows us to build on established trust and understanding. Having previously designed both her office and Gilgo home, we understood her lifestyle needs and aesthetic preferences. This familiarity enabled us to create a space that truly felt like home, even in a completely new environment, while accommodating her transitional living situation as she plans her future Vermont retreat.
