Garden of Earthly Delights at the Lenox Hill Neighborhood House Spring Gala
Project Overview
We created one of our most meaningful tablescape designs for the 2022 Lenox Hill "A Garden of Earthly Delights" Spring Gala, transforming the beloved adage "when life gives you lemons, make lemonade" into a celebration of resilience, heritage, and collaborative artistry. The event was held on April 28, 2022, at Cipriani 42nd Street, and our tablescape told a beautiful story while supporting an important cause.
Meaningful Design Philosophy
The tablescape centered around a textile with an extraordinary backstory that elevated the entire project from beautiful to truly significant. Working with textile designer Scot Meacham Wood, we incorporated his stunning Stavely Park Trellis fabric, created from motifs found on antique Rose Canton dinnerware that his mother had passionately collected throughout their military family's international moves. After his mother's passing, Scot commissioned an artist to recreate the plate's motifs as a textile pattern, transforming decades of family memories into a living tribute.
The project exemplified the power of meaningful collaboration, bringing together experts from diverse disciplines to create something greater than the sum of any individual's vision. Working with Curtain Avenue for precise fabrication, Replacements.com for vintage-inspired dishware that complemented the Rose Canton theme, and Monica Stoller for lush floral arrangements, we created a cohesive design narrative that honored both the textile's heritage and the gala's charitable mission.
The tablescape embodied the philosophy that great design should provide impact from across the room while revealing intimate details upon closer inspection. The vibrant colors and bold patterns created an immediate visual effect for the gala's grand entrance moments, while thoughtful details rewarded guests who lingered to examine the table's carefully curated elements.
Instead of asking "where did you buy this?" we focused on asking "where did you find this?" and "what's the story behind it?" This philosophy guided every design decision, ensuring that each element contributed to the table's rich narrative rather than simply filling space. The design transformed the "when life gives you lemons, make lemonade" theme into a sophisticated color story that celebrated optimism and resilience.
