Manhattan Spa Room at Holiday House NYC

Project Overview

We transformed a 300-square-foot Manhattan pool pavilion into a breathtaking urban spa retreat for Holiday House 2018. Located in a five-story Manhattan townhouse with a rooftop pool, this project showcased LGC’s ability to create transformative wellness environments while supporting The Breast Cancer Research Foundation. The showcase was open to the public from October 24 to December 2, 2018. During opening night, we offered massage services to guests, bringing the spa to life.

The Design Vision

Creating a spa environment within a 300-square-foot pavilion adjacent to a Manhattan rooftop pool area by renowned interior designer Vanessa DeLeon required balancing the practical needs of a wet environment with the serene atmosphere essential for relaxation. When we think of spas, we think of Marrakesh, and this vision guided the creation of an environment that transported visitors from Manhattan's concrete jungle to an exotic wellness retreat.

Moroccan Elegance and Custom Details

The design drew heavily from Middle Eastern spa traditions, incorporating elements that evoked the luxury hammams of Morocco and Turkey. A stunning Moroccan-inspired light fixture served as the centerpiece, creating dramatic shadows and atmosphere throughout the space. This bold lighting choice demonstrated my confidence in using statement pieces to anchor small spaces and create memorable focal points.

The spa's "Organic Glam" aesthetic emerged from careful layering of rich, natural textures with glamorous metallic accents. Burnished gold walls caught and reflected abundant natural light, creating a warm, honeyed glow that enhanced the space's cocoon-like intimacy. Whimsical touches included candles with bird feet from Zuo Modern, adding unexpected delight.

The space featured custom fretwork designed by LGC Interiors and executed by Evolution Event Rentals, adding architectural detail and visual interest to the compact pavilion. Verdant wallcovering from Wallquest provided a lush botanical backdrop with gold brick patterns that contrasted beautifully with the urban environment outside.

Luxurious textiles from partners including Frette linens, Samuel & Sons drapery, and Safavieh furnishings created rich layering throughout the space. Sacco Carpets provided flooring that balanced luxury with pool-adjacent practicality, while the raised ceiling treatment maximized the perceived volume and prevented any sense of claustrophobia.
