Southampton Family Bathroom Makeover at
Hamptons Designer Showhouse
Project Overview
We transformed a tight Jack and Jill bathroom space at the prestigious Hamptons Designer Showhouse into a stunning example of how thoughtful design can make small spaces feel both functional and luxurious. Located in a Southampton new build constructed by Cavallo Builders, this project demonstrated my exceptional ability to create visual impact within challenging spatial constraints while supporting the showhouse's fundraising mission for Stony Brook Southampton Hospital. The showhouse was open to the public from July 21 – September 2, 2019.
The Design Vision
Working within the confines of a narrow Jack and Jill bathroom required strategic planning to maximize both functionality and visual appeal. The space needed to serve the practical needs of a family home while creating a memorable design moment for showhouse visitors.
The challenge was intensified by the room's proportions - very long and narrow with two doors. To address this, we focused on the vanity side, using more wall space to create drama and draw attention away from the back wall. This approach minimized the constraints while maximizing accessibility, making the space feel more balanced and inviting.
Lighting and Artistic Elements
The bathroom featured spectacular hand-blown lighting fixtures from Visual Comfort that became true focal points. These oversized pendant lights demonstrated my bold approach to small-space design, proving that dramatic lighting can make compact areas feel more spacious and luxurious rather than overwhelmed. The higher ceilings allowed us to install these impressive fixtures, providing substantial light over the vanity to make the long, narrow space both workable and visually striking.
The space also showcased our signature "sophisticated whimsy" through sculptural butterfly mirrors from Phillips Collection that appeared to dance through the room, adding unexpected playfulness. The shower featured carefully selected marble tile work from Tile Shop that created a cohesive backdrop, while premium fixtures from Forbes & Lomax added sophisticated finishing touches.
